Ronda's Prayer Shawl

As most of you know, my sister-in-law was diagnosed w/ lung cancer back in January. I kept thinking of what could I do to help, only to find out the only thing I could really do was pray for her. As I was grieving the tremendous shock of such news, I was taken back to two blogs where I read of the prayer shawl ministry.

The prayer shawl is a gift any of us can make and give to a person who is ill or facing some very though times. As you crochet or knit the prayer shawl you pray for person whom you are giving the shawl as a gift. I did listen to the scriptures, for I was crocheting almost non-stop for a couple of days. This shawl is saturated w/ the first five books of the Bible (Torah). I was so blessed, for as I worked and listened to the scriptures I felt refreshed and renewed.

The Shawl is made with a specific amount of stiches, for each numbers has a meaning. Here is one which got my attention, scroll half way down the page to read about: Symbolism of the number 18.

Yarn used: 3 skeins (6 oz. each) of Simply Soft yarn
Crochet Hook : N

Stiches used: Ch, Sc, Dc and Ss

Directions:
63 chains -
Row 1: SC on second CH from hook, until 62 chains made. CH 1, turn.
Rows 2-3: repeat row 1, after completing row 3, CH 3, turn
Rows 4-6: DC
Basically you make 3 rows of SC, and 3 rows or DC, until desired length.

Finish it with a nice row of Shells all around the shawl.

I didn't really have a pattern for the shell, I also had a hard time finding one on-line. So, I played around until I found a pattern with using the # stich pattern. Basically you will SC all around the whole shawl, leaving 1 or 2 stitches at each corner. Ch 1, and begin making the shells, you might need to fugde it a bit to make the last shell fit when getting to the corners.

Shell = 3 DC on top of one SC, then 3 SL , skip 1 Sc and SC or SS on the next 3 SC, all around.

The yarn tied to the shawl below, is the verse I have claimed to pray for Ronda, which is out of Numbers 12:13 (below). I wraped the stich when I heard the verse. I told her it would be a reminder to her when times would get difficult to keep pressing on, that she was not alone.
